London: A fashion lover does Christmas Part 1, Department stores galore...

Hello lovelies!

During December I always love to visit London, as nothing makes me feel more Christmassy than seeing all of the lights and pretty shop windows all done up for the world to see.  Some would argue that it's not what Christmas is about, but because of my love of fashion and visual merchandising, I look forward to seeing how the shops and big department store are presented (and then strolling inside to add more items to my ever growing designer wishlist!).  This year I visited London with my Mister and although not all of what we did there was fashion related, I thought I'd share the trip with you anyway (with as much of a fashion spin on the post as possible of course!).  I'm going to be talking about Christmas, Ice-skating, Street art and lots and lots of lights!  Welcome to my mini London series, starting with some seriously amazing shop windows...

Department store windows and stunning shop frontage...

Over the course of our three day trip we visited loads of London, walking miles and hopping on and off the tube when we needed to.  Although it's always hectic this time of year, we made sure to visit both Oxford and Regent Street, Bond Street, Knightsbridge and Covent Garden to see how the shops were doing Christmas this year, and of course to see all of the amazing lights!  My favourite window this year is probably John Lewis on Oxford Street; I know the advert of the trampolining boxer dog caused uproar as many people think it isn't Christmassy enough, but I love it-and the window this year is a clever extension of it.  But don't take my word for it...here are London's Christmas windows...

Liberty London, Regent Street

Liberty's theme this year is the Nutcracker ballet, which I think really complements the traditional Tudor style of the building.  Vibrant, rich colours and a continuing theme running right across the front of the store, the continuation of the story from window to window reminded me so much of visiting Fenwick in Newcastle every year as a little girl to see their Christmas window which always has a similar 'story' set up.  One of their best themes yet; truly heartwarming!

Selfridges, Oxford Street...

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a visit to the mothership that is Selfridges.  I love, love, love this store so much and have spent many a London trip wandering around and lusting after all of the designer goodies (this year I was particularly loving Gucci womenswear-worth a visit!).  The windows here are always fun and this year's is just that, fun with a capital F!   Santa is having a whale of a time (check out his disco suit!)...

This window has disco music playing out into the street-it's a Santa party!

John Lewis, Oxford Street...

As I've already talked a little bit about this window, I won't say too much-but if the animals featured in the advert shopped at John Lewis, you get a sense of how they'll be spending Christmas, right under Buster the boxer's nose!  I love animals, love the advert and love the concept-bravo John Lewis!

Burberry, Regent Street and Harrods, Knightsbridge...

Okay, I promise I'm not going to start waxing lyrical about how much I love Burberry; if you're a regular reader you'll know by now that visiting 121 Regent Street is as important to me when I visit London as breathing!  So imagine my excitement when I found that not only has the flagship store spruced up their interior ready for Christmas this year, but that Harrods has also dedicated all of its Christmas window to all things Burberry AND if you go inside, there's also a mini exhibition dedicated to Burberry too...eek!  So although it's not really very Christmassy, it certainly made me wish for lots of Burberry goodies to be left under my Christmas tree.  Fans of the brand, be sure to visit!

 Spot me!!!

The glare from the sun was awful here in this last window-but I loved it so wanted to show it anyway!

Regent Street flagship store...where my dreams are made...

Other windows worth a visit...

Louis Vuitton, Bond Street

I loved the polar bears-I'd visit just for that!

Victoria's Secret, New Bond Street (not Christmas related but really special all the same!)...

For fans of VS, the windows are always really impressive at the London store.  If you can cope with the crowds be sure to wander inside too, the interior is delectable!  Some of the best collections from the runway will leave you ready to hit the gym and give up mince pies for life (well...maybe!).

Thanks for reading! Part two will look at some beautiful lights and feature SKATE at Somerset House...

Until next time,

Kay
