Day 1: The Italian Farmhouse, West Rainton

Hello lovelies!

It's been such a long time since I've had a chance to blog that I've decided to set myself a little challenge! I'm hoping I can stick to it and achieve it, but we'll see how we go!  As I have just passed 200 followers on Bloglovin', I've decided that as a thank you to those lovely people that take time to read my blog,  I'm going to post every day in December all the way up until Christmas Eve! Think of this as your 'I dream of Coco' advent calendar!  So without further ado, here is what's behind door number one...

Way back in September after a bout of holiday blues, my Mister and I decided to treat ourselves to a lovely little evening meal at the Italian Farmhouse in West Rainton, Houghton-le-Spring (about a five minute drive from our house).  If you've never visited before, you're in for a real treat.  With a warm and inviting setting of exposed brickwork and fairy lights, the Italian Farmhouse has a homely, rustic feel to it and boasts REAL Italian food created from locally sourced produce.  We've been a few times and are yet to be disappointed (this specific Thursday night was no exception!) so let me show you what we had...

We opted for an offer menu, three courses and a drink for £12.95 (yes just £12.95!!) and really were spoilt for choice by the delicious selection on offer.  Pizzas, pastas and speciality dishes all featured on the menu, but somehow we managed to decide!  Our meal started with an appetiser of bread and a selection of dips (chilli, green pesto and garlic) before our starters had even arrived; the bread was unbelievably good!

For our first course we both made the same choice, crispy pork belly.  As you can see from the photos the portion was quite small, but perfect for me!  The pork was crispy and cooked to perfection; it melted in my mouth! I was pleased that it didn't taste too fatty and I would definitely choose it again, delicious!

For my main I ordered cod  (I can't remember what the sauce was as it was quite a while ago-bad blogger!!) and again it was delicious.  I love fish and quite often order seafood in restaurants and this did not disappoint, it was super filling and very tasty.  My Mister ordered Wild Boar sausages and mash (maybe not the obvious Italian choice) which looked delicious; he practically licked the plate clean it was so good!

Thankfully I still had room for dessert so I ordered a slice of gorgeous vanilla cheesecake.  I am a cheesecake expert (not certified but I've eaten loads!) and this was definitely one of the best I've ever had!  Chris chose profiteroles which he loved too, but he's greedier than me so probably could have managed seconds!

The food was delicious, the atmosphere relaxing and the staff were, as always, chatty and friendly.  It was such a lovely midweek night out all-round and we'll definitely be going back for more!
