Passion for London Fashion (Weekend)...

Ok, so here is my London Fashion Weekend  post as promised, and what an eventful day it was!  After finally choosing my outfit...as mentioned in my last post, I was good to go...although annoyingly the button fell off my top before I'd even pulled away from Durham train station!!!  That aside, after a four hour train journey, my VBF and I pulled into London King's Cross Station, and it was like we'd never been away!!!

Before the fashion show, we managed to squeeze in a visit to Oxford Street, to tick off our hit list of places to go before Somerset House.  We started on Regent's Street, where we visited Liberty's, then we mapped it out to Conduit Street to visit the Vivienne Westwood store.  I hadn't visited this particular store before my trip, and I have to say I was really impressed with its layout and the amount of stock it had.  I am in love with the new 'Monster Print' and went there in search of a handbag (because as you know I love my handbags and my Yasmin could do with a new friend!!), but sadly the store didn't stock it...one for the Christmas list I guess...

...after Vivienne Westwood, we hot-footed it to Selfridges, and hit the gorgeous Christmas shop, where I bought a gorgeous Gisela Graham crocheted penguin for my tree.  I agree, it is a little early for bauble shopping, but when in the North Pole, I guess you've got to do what the elves would do!!  My VBF bought a couple of baubles too, then we headed back down to the beauty hall so she could get her Charlotte Tilbury fix.  Miss Tilbury's new make-up range is amazing...so amazing that the little counter was overrun with more happy shoppers than the poor staff could cope with, so if you are planning a visit, be prepared for a little bit of a wait when purchasing!  There's something about Selfridges beauty hall that I love...I didn't even buy anything, but I love the hustle and bustle of it all, and the variety of beauty products on offer is phenomenal! To be honest, I think I could quite happily move into Selfridges and stay there forever...what else could you ever want?!

By this point we had ticked off our checklist, leaving us with an hour to get to Somerset House for the show.  This is unfortunately where the madness started.  I don't want to bore you with the details, but after being sent halfway across London on the Tube, only to find out we had been sent in the complete wrong direction, then after heading back...desperately trying to flag a cab...we missed our fashion show :(.  With some savvy tube hopping, and a near death experience on a rickshaw...we pulled up at Somerset house at 430pm...so managed to catch only the last half hour of the event.  I have to say, that although we lost an hour running around like headless chickens and were a bit downbeat as a result, the rickshaw ride was quite possibly one of the most hilarious things I think I've ever done in my entire life, and it really brightened up our day.  Our guy was so much fun, and must've loved the fact that we had no change so let him leave us £20 lighter.  He did agree to collect us...but we didn't wait around for him...so if he ever reads this blog, which I'm sure he never will, and he was waiting for us after the event, our sincerest apologies...but we hope you enjoyed spending your £10 tip hehe!  Although only briefly, I am pleased we finally got to the event; at least we managed a good rummage around Somerset House, a few photo opportunities, and bagged a free lipstick from the good people at Maybelline worth £7.19!! Bonus!!

Rickshaw Ride!!
We finally made it!!!
Free lippy-thanks Maybelline!

By this point we were tired and hungry, so we headed into Covent Garden towards the Chanel Beauty Boutique (which I absolutely loved!) to make our last few purchases (a gorgeous berry coloured "Coco Shine" lipstick called "Fiction" for both of us, and  "Tentation", a shocking pink nail varnish for me).  I loved the finishing touches at Chanel, and was really impressed with my "Chanel at Covent Garden" tag they added to my gift bag!

J'adore Chanel at Covent Garden!

Final stop was a meal at "Pasta Brown's" in Covent Garden (pasta for me and pizza for my VBF), followed by the most amazing New York Cheesecake for dessert.  Then it was back to King's Cross for the train...feet throbbing, purses empty and smiles on our faces!  Another adventure to London conquered...and fun memories that will never be replaced!

How was your weekend?
Did any of you visit London Fashion Week/Weekend?
I'd love to hear all about it if you did!

LFW....it's here!!

So it's finally arrived...today is the day I go to London Fashion Weekend...I can't believe it's here!  And this is my outfit post as promised!

After my dilemma I decided to go for this....

And my Yasmin bag will be my weapon of choice once again...probably no surprise there :)

My whole outfit this time is from good old Primark! The pretty top was £13...I fell in love with the embellished collar, and the jeans are from their 'Super Skinny' range...£11 a pair! Can't say fairer than that! I really love high-end fashion...but sadly my bank balance doesn't always stretch that far...so I love it when Primark comes up with the goods!  The shoes (also Primark's finest) were a snip at £4!

So this time in London (aside from the fashion extravaganza!), I plan to check out the Charlotte Tilbury makeup range and the Christmas shop at Selfridges, the finer points of Liberty's, a possible trip to Vivienne Westwood in Conduit Street, Covent Garden and the Chanel boutique makeup store! It's doable in a day, right? Ha I hope so!  Can't wait to tell you all about it!

Just a little note to close, for those of you in the North of England, I visited an amazing vintage shop in Sunderland yesterday called 'Scout'.  The quaint little store is on Frederick Street in the town centre,  just along the road from my favourite vintage tea room in the world, 'Serendipity', and sells an array of vintage, from old Levi's 501s to Burberry trenches at the bargain price of £49.95!!!!!  I bagged myself a lovely Burberry polo shirt for £8.95...an absolute steal....I can't wait to wear it!! You can follow 'Scout' on Facebook (search for 'Scout Vintage') or on twitter @scoutfashion.   Oh and I promise to post a pic of the polo shirt as soon as I get a chance :)

Bye for now lovelies, I've got a train to catch...eeeek!!

London Fashion Weekend...the count down begins...

Sorry for the delay in posting lately, I've just got back to work after a little two week break and have struggled to find time to write...but here I am once again and I need your help!

Image taken from "http://www.londonfashionweekend.co.uk/"

Today sees the start of London Fashion Week (LFW), a hugely exciting time in the fashion calendar where we learn about what will be on trend for Spring/Summer '14...at the beginning of Autumn/Winter '13.  I love that fashion is so forward thinking, even if it means that from behind my faux fur coat, I'll be eyeing up summery shorts for the new season!  This year however poses a different dilemma.  I normally keep an eye on the trends from the comfort of my own home, Ipad in lap and a mug of hot chocolate by my side...secretly wishing that I was on the frow at Chanel and Vivienne Westwood.  But this year, my VBF and I are going to London Fashion Weekend...eeeeeeeek!!!  And my dilemma is this...what shall I wear for such an occasion?

For those of you that don't know the difference, London Fashion Week is invite only, whereas London Fashion Weekend is the consumer's chance to visit Somerset House, watch a few shows and eye up the new trends.  I dream of one day going to the actual week, but for now the weekend will do just fine!  But yes, that age old problem of what to wear...hmmm! So obviously I want to look on trend...I don't want to be unfashionable at a fashion event that's for sure.  But this time there are many other things to consider.  The weather, will it rain? Will it be warm and sunny?  The way the weather has been lately there is just no way to tell!! Will I be comfortable?  We are going down to London and back all in the same day...so this too is something to take into account! ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!

So I'm thinking maybe a cute dress, tights, leather jacket, pumps combo at the moment...but I haven't even thought about colours!! I fancy some sort of tartan attire, very current, but haven't yet seen anything that has caught my eye (although as expected I've seen plenty handbags that would look great!!).  And I am beyond desparate for a hair cut...so hairstyle is something else to consider (if it rains, my hair will be so huge the people behind me at the catwalk show won't be able to see!!!).

So today,  I start my quest for a new outfit for the day...I'll let you know how it goes!

I hope you all enjoy LFW wherever you are watching it...let me know what your favourite trends are this season :)

Oooh and if you have any outfit ideas for me...please feel free to comment my lovelies :)

Confessions of a beauty bimbo...

Ok, I'm not going to lie...for a girl who loves and understands fashion, I know nothing about beauty. Absolutely nothing. I don't know how to apply bronzer, I only just found out what primer was and I don't cleanse, tone or moisturise...because I don't know how. I am a total beauty bimbo. What better reason to write a beauty post?! There must be other girls out there that haven't had a beauty education.  As I've said in a previous post, my VBF is a beauty expert and she is trying to help me reach the road of beauty righteousness, but I often wonder if I am a lost cause.  Mama L is not really into make-up and never has been, so I couldn't ever really turn to her for guidance...and I have brothers not sisters, who obviously couldn't do much to help either!!  I do however have my beauty favourites, so this post is really a glimpse inside my somewhat sparse make-up bag.  Most of my make-up is high-street, as I don't really have the spare cash or the knowledge to justify spending a fortune on it.  So here it is...beauty through a novice's eyes!  I've posted purchase links next to each product, just in case anything takes your fancy :)

My world in make-up!

1 Chanel Coco Shine Lipstick-55 Romance
I absolutely love this lipstick!! It's a gorgeous and subtle shade of pink making it great for through the day, or for a more toned down lip colour of an evening.  It's easy to apply, and as it's a hydrating lipstick it makes your lips feel great.  It's more than I would usually spend on a lipstick (these Chanel lipsticks retail at £24 and are available at most good Boots stores) but it's a little bit of luxury that you can pop in your handbag, plus I love the chic packaging! Every girl loves a little bit of Chanel :)

2 Urban Decay Eyeshadow-Last Call
This is my every day colour.  I love the shade and how rich it looks when it's on.  The colour is long-lasting too, so I can usually get through the whole day without the need to reapply. I'm a novice at blending eye shadows, so this is a good, full, go to shade if you want to wear one block colour.  I got mine from House of Fraser for £14, money well spent!

"Last Call"-Urban Decay

3 Rimmel Kate 107 Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick
This lipstick is great for transforming an outfit from day wear into evening wear! It's a really rich, deep red, and I've got to say I was a little bit frightened of its colour when I first got it, as normally I keep my lips quite subtle. Lasting finish is true, it does stay put and holds well, although it does dry your lips a little. I love how dramatic the shade is though. It's not for the faint-hearted, I'm quite pale so it's severe, but I usually save it for performing, it stands out great on stage. (Purchase here at Boots-it looks quite pink in their picture, but it's definitely red on the lips!)

4 Revlon Colour Burst Lipbutter-045 Cotton Candy
This lip butter is a complete contrast to the Kate lipstick I've just described. Its texture is very similar to the Chanel so it keeps the lips hydrated (and it was obviously quite a bit cheaper than the Chanel, a bargain at £7.99) This is my go to everyday lip butter...to be honest I treat it like a balm, the colour doesn't really last or stand out, but I love its texture and it's super easy to apply.

L-R "Cotton Candy" Revlon Lip Butter (45) and Rimmel "Lasting Finish" Matte Lipstick (107)

5 Soap and Glory-Hand Food
This product is a life saver. I'm rubbish at remembering to apply creams, but with the cold winter weather last year I was finding that the skin on my hands was cracking due to my cold morning walks with the pooch. I tried loads of creams to no avail...until this little beauty came to me in a Christmas gift box. I think it retails in Boots for around £2.50 and considering how expensive hand creams can be (and I've tried loads!) it's an absolute snip. You only need a small amount and it smells amazing (like marshmallows!) a real winter handbag must have!

My hand cream hero!
6 Butter London Nail Lacquer-Tart With a Heart
I have to confess I'm a bit of a crow when it comes to things that sparkle, and I adore glitter nail varnish. The only problem is, many of them look sparkly in the bottle, but not so good on your nails! This Butter London varnish is the exception to the rule! Worn on its own or on top of another colour, the glitter really stands out, and I'd say you get a good 3 to 4 days before it starts to chip. Butter London have removed some of the harmful chemicals in their varnish too, so no damage to your nails as a result. Bonus! I got mine from Selfridges, but most good beauty halls and bigger Boots stores stock it at £12 a bottle.  I love the quirky names too, I've got my eye on "Lovely Jubbly" for my next purchase :).

"Tart With A Heart" Butter London

And this leads me nicely to:

7 Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eye Liner
Another Urban Decay fave, I got this with a palette a while back...and even though it probably should have been shown the bin by now, I can't seem to let go. Again the glitter is gorgeous, but I tend to wear it more on top of my eye shadow than as a liner. One for a sparkly finish.  The photo is a little shoddy (as is my product...well-loved!) but you can see them in all of their glory online at House of Fraser.  The shade of mine is called "Distortion" and isn't available at House of Fraser, but you can still get it from Urban Decay's Official Website.

"Distortion" a good name considering how battered my bottle is!

8 Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara
I normally use Rimmel's "Extra WOW Lash" which I've always been pretty happy with.  I tried this mascara on a whim when it was on offer, and I think I prefer it! The wand really separates the lashes, making them look fuller and longer, an effect which really opens up your eyes.  I love it and it's a steal at £7.99!

9 Vivienne Westwood-Boudoir
This is my ultimate, ultimate favourite.  And not just because of my love for Viv...the smell is gorgeous and reminds me of that first visit to a Westwood store!  The scent is long lasting, and is perfect for both everyday freshness and evening elegance.  It is a little pricey (a 30ml bottle is £38 at Vivienne Westwood's online store) but if you hunt around some online fragrance sites, you can sometimes pick it up at a bargain price. For me price is irrelevant, it is my favourite perfume, and comes head and shoulders above any other fragrance that I wear.  Not to mention the gorgeous bottle, which would look irresistible on any dressing table, don't you think?

Vivienne Westwood-"Boudoir"

10 Accessories-Make-up bag and mirror
I couldn't end without mentioning my gorgeous Charlotte Tilbury make-up bag.  This was bought at Selfridges when I was last in London (see my London Calling post) and was released as part of Charlotte's "Rock 'n' Kohl" range.  I fell in love with the quote (and the funky lips!).  It's my little piece of make-up history!

And finally, my little gold Harrods mirror was a gift from Mama L, and travels with me everywhere.  I have no idea where she got it, or when for that matter as it wasn't given to me brand new, but all I know it is won't be going anywhere because its perfect!
