Roker park lights: Alice in Sunderland...

When I was little, Roker Park and Roker beach in Sunderland used to be the go to place for illuminations (if you couldn't get to Blackpool). I have a vague childhood memory of driving along the seafront in the car and looking at all of the pretty lights. Well, this year Sunderland council as part of Sunderland Live decided to bring them back, in the form of Alice in Wonderland! Sunderland has a strong connection with Lewis Carroll.  It is said that he had a deep love of Whitburn and even began to write one of his poems "Jabberwocky" whilst visiting the area; there's even a statue of the walrus from the poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter" in Mowbray Park.  Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite childhood stories, so I couldn't let the illuminations pass by without visiting!! I even had a lovely portion of fish and chips to boot...when in Rome, or in this case Roker!  The illuminations are on until November 3rd, so there's not too long left, but if you get the opportunity I'd really recommend a visit. And the best part? It's completely free!!!!

I love the Cheshire cat, which is your favourite?
